“Participation in senior games has increased significantly over the past few years and the local executive felt that this new district would be a positive move for the community,” says Jeri Lunney, District Coordinator for the new senior games group. “We created a survey last summer to get input from local participants and the response to the new district was overwhelming.” District summer games will be held each May and June in Carleton Place, Almonte and Pakenham. In addition, winter games will be held each fall and winter. Winners will be eligible to attend Actifest in London, Ontario, August 12 to 14, 2008 and/or Winterfest in Brockville in February 2009. “We also have the option of offering unsanctioned games such as six-hand euchre and six-hand bid euchre, says President Marion Timmins. “These games are very popular in our area. There will be no provincial competitions for the unsanctioned games.” “We are really excited about this new district,” says Mrs. Lunney. A logo contest for the students in our local high schools was organized. Students were invited to create the new logo for the district. A logo was chosen. The winning entry was from Jordon Rousseau, a Grade 12 student. |
